Anonymous Black Women Living & Thriving With Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
The “Anonymous Black Women Living & Thriving With Attention Deficit Disorder” website was created to educate, encourage, empower, and entertain black women who live with adult Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD).
There is a stigma around the topic of mental health in the black community. Some people think that you are “off ” if you exhibit unusual behavior they do not understand such as sleeping too much, demonstrating anger all the time, or not being able to remember simple things. There are even some members in the black community who do not believe that mental health challenges are real. Instead, they think that people use them as excuses for behaving differently.
Is there any wonder that so many black women living with mental health challenges choose to ignore the symptoms and suffer in silence? They know that something is wrong with them, but who can they tell? We read the stories and see news reports about black women behaving erratically, “going off” on people, crying constantly, demonstrating antisocial behaviors, acting like a “crazy black woman”, destroying relationships, getting terminated from jobs, and even committing suicide.
This Anonymous Black Women website defines ADD traits, the manifestations, and strategies to live and thrive! The vision is “to eliminate the stigma around mental health challengs”. The mission is “to define ADD traits, the manifestations, and strategies to live and thrive”. The purpose is “to educate, encourage, empower, and entertain black women who live with ADD”. The symbol is a butterfly because it represents a metamorphosis.
